Nurturing Beauty: 3 DIY Recipes Using Young Living Rose Ointment
Have you jumped on the Castor Oil train? Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid. These types of fats can be used to moisturize the skin. They act as occlusive moisturizers, which prevent or reduce water loss through the outer layer of the skin. GUESS WHAT?! Rose ointment contains castor oil, so I have been testing it out on the driest parts of my face and under my eyes as an eye cream to see the results. I have previously used just castor oil under my eyes and I can report that I prefer using Rose Ointment as it helps the other ingredients get absorbed better. Rose Ointment…

Average persons guide to setup a business in a day…
You’ve had this idea for super long and just don’t know where to start to get your business launched? KISS (Keep it simple, stupid) – Repeat it louder for the ones in the back!! Here are some basic tools and steps I suggest from my personal experience in starting any small business in South Africa.Firstly starting with an idea and maybe a business plan (this can change along the way) but start with something that you can work from and build a foundation on. Put it on paper and get into action. Choose a name for your business. Something original, catchy and don’t over complicate it. Create a logo design…

100+ uses for your 10 bundle oils
The 10 bundle oils is the easy button for the beginner and the most cost effective way to get all the basic oils in your home. It includes, in my opinion two of the bougiest oils (aka Valor and Frankincense) in the bundle that makes it even more worth it. Here are some of the ways too use each oil in the bundle: PEPPERMINT 1. Add several drops of Peppermint Vitality to your favorite brownie mix.2. Add several drops of Peppermint Vitality to some chocolate and coconut oil to make peppermint bark.3. Add 1 drop of Peppermint Vitality to water to keep you feeling full.4. Add a couple drops to…

Interior Design & Aromatherapy
So not only do we all love to have a gorgeous interior, but also a home that smells amazing! I was wondering how to achieve it without allowing harmful chemicals from candles in your home, and also realistically you can’t have candles burning 24/7 throughout your whole home. See why we need to relook at burning candles here. Like colour, scents and smells can trigger emotions in us. So how can we incorporate scents in our home to create the desired emotions we would like home to associate with? Setting the mood WITHOUT candles
Nothing sets the mood like a candle, right?! I won’t lie and say this was an easy swop, I LOVED candles and especially when we had a dinner party, friends over for a visit or even to burn next to my bath after a long day. There is just that vibe a burning candle provides. These days, I can’t light a candle without wondering what I am breathing in, because the candle company might not be telling you. So how can you recreate that cozy vibe and amazing smell without possibly* breathing in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, toluene and benzene, released from candles made from paraffin wax and synthetic…

Cutest flamingo room inspiration
Let’s Flamingle! I’m a little flamingo obsessed this week. It is my daughter’s 7th birthday next week and I’m all flamingo and glittered up and in full party prep mode. While looking for some party decor I kept on being distracted by the gorgeous room decor that jumped up onto my screen. So I thought I will share some inspiration with you. The beauty of this theme is that you can use flamingos in a very fun, tropical room setting as well as in a very subtle and elegant setting. I love it either way. I love making and keeping imprints and prints of my kids hands and feet, just because they will never be that little again and the kids also love seeing how small they were. Although there are many ways of keeping these memories alive, there are a few that stand out quite a bit. I just had to share my current two keepsake crushes with you. DIY Slime
If you have a kid that has any access to YouTube this post if for you!! Your child has probably stumbled upon a few DIY tutorials by kids and adults alike showing your child how to make slime. DIY SlIME is definitely a buzzword in my daughter’s vocabulary. My daughter, Alexia, comes to me with at least two new DIY Slime tutorials a week, if not more. Love More Movement
A few weeks ago I watched a series called 13 Reasons Why on Netflix and it was such a touching and sobering show about how 13 small acts can have such a huge impact, ending in death ,on one person. It also resonated with my life and how people have treated me over the years, good or bad, and what that impact was on myself. Awful acts like Bullying is such a huge part of our education system, our kids lives and society that we have to start standing up and saying NO MORE! Alexia’s confetti room
I could not wait to share this confetti & pastels room designed for a very special girl. My brief from the very adamant 6 year old was that she wanted a room with pink, purple, gold and glitter with unicorns and confetti – a brief I’m sure that most 6 year-old girls would give and that most mothers dread, so I did an interpretation on this look in a bit more sophisticated yet age appropriate look. I started with a very neutral grey base and added in some pastels to the bedding and headboard and rugs. I designed a custom headboard inspired by the silhouettes of dutch houses. On the…

Baby shower gifts that mommies love {Win}
To many of us, baby shower gifts are regular items on our shopping lists. At some point you start running out of ideas or there is, “GAASP”,no gift registry. Here’s a list of items that moms really like to receive, and won’t always ask for. TEETHING NECKLACE for mom. I just love the necklaces from Jele Bebe, they are stylish and practical too and mom is not bound to only wear it while she still has a baby. CROSS OVER BABY VEST, especially newborn vests. The Collaborative – Playroom
The Collaborative is the brain child of Chantelle {La Fede designs} and Mariette {Little Interiors} with the goal get mostly South African small businesses to collaborate to create beautiful room settings with locally designed and manufactured items. Our first The Collaborative room design was a playroom for girls. I created a moodboard using soft colours and fun designs to create a space that reflects a dreamy, girly playroom. We used a lot of quircky pillows and animals in the design. The moodboard is used to put a collection of ideas together to create an overall look. Often the design changes slightly in the end result but the overall look stays the same. A moodboard is very helpful in…

High contrast colours for newborn babies
Your newborn baby is a perfect little human that can feel you, hear you, smell you, taste what your feed him but can’t see you all that clear yet. This is one of the last and arguably the most important sense to develop after birth. You hear a lot of talk about high contrast colours, but why you might ask. Your baby’s retina is not fully developed yet and can only really see the difference between black and white or very high contrasting colours. By stimulating this sense you are helping the brain make sense of different shades, shapes and colours. This article from Dr Sears sums up how important…

Hoppity poppity EB is coming to town
“EB”, as my daughter refers to the Easter bunny, is coming to town and I’m loving all the bunny decor around. I felt inspired by the glass bunny jar with pearlised hazelnuts that I bought from Woolworths a while back. I had one of those happy accidents with it when I tried to get the stickiness from the tape off with nail polish remover, and accidentally took of the gold, but decided to leave the bunny gold. I just love it more now. I love jar storage and I always suggest using it in a nursery to keep the cotton buds and other small necessities on hand. Why not…

Tips on baby proofing your home!
Have you done baby proofing yet? In the last couple of weeks I have personally been touched by horrible accidents that happened to toddlers in their own homes. It made me check my own house again for items that could possible hurt or even worse, kill my toddler and child. To fully understand what you need to look for, you need to crawl on your hands and knees, look at the house like an inquisitive baby/toddler/child. If this is too much for you, or you are worried that you will miss something then get a company like BabyProofesionals to asses your home. The general rule is to have your house baby proof by the time…

How to space decals
For a while now decals has been a trendy wall decor option, not only because it can be removed easily but also because it is so easy to install. It can however be a little daunting when you have to space the smaller decals an equal distance from each other. I have a fairly accurate eye and can pick up a slight difference easily and it would bug me until I fix it so I looked for an option that is easy and accurate. You will need to do the following: 1. Determine the width (and height) you want them to be apart. 2. Cut a piece of cardboard…

Children’s bathroom storage solutions
Organizing a kids bathroom is one of the most difficult tasks for me personally, and it is even worse when the said bathroom is shared with adults. Bath toys are the worst because they need to dry between play, to prevent all types of nasties growing in and on the toys. My bathroom tiles are not at all suction cup friendly so none of the suction cup bags worked well for me, and unfortunately neither does double-sided tape stick to these tiles so I had my hands in my hair. My husband mounted a bath toy scoop to the wall rather than having to use double-sided tape. This worked great…

Crochet/Doily Rug
I have always felt that we have a limited selection of rugs in SA. I needed something a bit more girly, NOT SHAGGY and easy to clean for a toddler room. I have been drooling over crochet doily rugs. I had some spare t-shirt yarn and I started with my own crochet rug, take note that I have never even held a crochet needle in my life so this was all new. DIY: Fabric toy bags
Want to make your own fabric toy bags? I made these fabric bags for the African Themed Nursery I shared recently. The smaller one is being used to store baby toys and teddies and the taller one as a laundry basket. I reinforced both the barrels with iron on batting but I had to use cardboard for the laundry basket between the layers, just to keep it from falling over. It still has the effect I wanted but it’s just a little bit more stable. I cut my own pattern for these two sizes and tweaked a little as I was sewing. Here is a very nice tutorial I found…
