Demetri’s Toddler Room

This toddler room for Demetri encapsulates everything about being a boy.

Little Demetri is almost 3 and loves trains, rockets, robots and planes. I did not want to bind the room with only one theme,  I would like to have the option to tweak the room as he grows up, to match his personality and likes. I wanted a real boyish room since he was still in his nursery so I had a custom cross stitch piece made for him, inspired by the nursery rhyme “What are little boys made of?”. This became the inspiration behind this room.

Demetri has taken over his big sisters room seen bellow in the before image.

I have kept the walls and window dressing a neutral grey, as I wanted to mainly add primary and secondary colour pops with the decor. I used a slightly darker grey decal to add some fun elements to the walls like this stars on the one side and the little figurines on the book ledges.

I’ve created areas in the room for the different activities that a toddler enjoys; like his reading corner, a seating area where he can draw and play, and a drawing board to create a vertical surface for him to use. I also included a storage unit with bins for all his smaller items, this is also an easy way to teach him to pack away toys in specific places. I have left enough space for him to play with his train set on the floor and the steel chest is an ideal storage for all his trains.

I love the fact that I can use the table as storage too and the lids have a blackboard back so that he can draw on it. I am still trying to get him to sleep in his own bed so I’ve made a fun game out of his sleeping area. For now we are taking 10 minutes every evening to go and “camp” in his tent bed. He will (hopefully) soon become more comfortable with this space as a sleeping area.
