Alexia’s confetti room
I could not wait to share this confetti & pastels room designed for a very special girl. My brief from the very adamant 6 year old was that she wanted a room with pink, purple, gold and glitter with unicorns and confetti – a brief I’m sure that most 6 year-old girls would give and that most mothers dread, so I did an interpretation on this look in a bit more sophisticated yet age appropriate look. I started with a very neutral grey base and added in some pastels to the bedding and headboard and rugs. I designed a custom headboard inspired by the silhouettes of dutch houses. On the…

Demetri’s Toddler Room
This toddler room for Demetri encapsulates everything about being a boy. Little Demetri is almost 3 and loves trains, rockets, robots and planes. I did not want to bind the room with only one theme, I would like to have the option to tweak the room as he grows up, to match his personality and likes. I wanted a real boyish room since he was still in his nursery so I had a custom cross stitch piece made for him, inspired by the nursery rhyme “What are little boys made of?”. This became the inspiration behind this room. Demetri has taken over his big sisters room seen bellow in the…

Children’s bathroom storage solutions
Organizing a kids bathroom is one of the most difficult tasks for me personally, and it is even worse when the said bathroom is shared with adults. Bath toys are the worst because they need to dry between play, to prevent all types of nasties growing in and on the toys. My bathroom tiles are not at all suction cup friendly so none of the suction cup bags worked well for me, and unfortunately neither does double-sided tape stick to these tiles so I had my hands in my hair. My husband mounted a bath toy scoop to the wall rather than having to use double-sided tape. This worked great…

DIY: Fabric toy bags
Want to make your own fabric toy bags? I made these fabric bags for the African Themed Nursery I shared recently. The smaller one is being used to store baby toys and teddies and the taller one as a laundry basket. I reinforced both the barrels with iron on batting but I had to use cardboard for the laundry basket between the layers, just to keep it from falling over. It still has the effect I wanted but it’s just a little bit more stable. I cut my own pattern for these two sizes and tweaked a little as I was sewing. Here is a very nice tutorial I found…

Toy Storage
Your house used to be neat and tidy, AND then you had kids… without knowing it toys crept into every corner of your house. Some people find it easy to discard of toys easily, but when it is expensive toys that have not been damaged beyond repair I tend to keep them… and then there is another birthday and MORE toys come… Here are some options to make life a little less cluttered. Get the kids to help tidy up by playing a game or singing a tidy-up song. The odd threat to throw all the toys in the dustbin also works wonders sometimes. Happy Organising {Mariette” Mariette SakelliouI am extremely…
